We are hiring Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to provide direct patient care at the VA Hudson Valley Healthcare System under a long-term federal staffing contract. This is a stable, full-time opportunity serving veterans across medical, psychiatric, and geriatric units at the Montrose and Castle Point VA Medical Centers.

This is not a travel assignment or per-diem gig. You will have a consistent schedule, a structured orientation, and the stability of a federal contract that runs through 2031 with annual renewals.

SHIFTS AVAILABLE (10 openings total)

• Days: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (3 openings)

• Evenings: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM (2 openings)

• Extended Days: 7:30 AM – 8:00 PM (3 openings)

• Nights: 7:30 PM – 8:00 AM (2 openings)

All shifts include federal holidays. A half-hour unpaid break is included per shift. Occasional overtime may be available and is pre-approved by the Nurse Manager.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Provide skilled nursing care to adult patients on medical, psychiatric, and geriatric units

• Administer oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications per facility protocols

• Observe and document patient responses to medications and report changes to the RN or physician

• Accurately document all care in VA electronic health records (CPRS/VISTA)

• Collaborate with RNs, physicians, and interdisciplinary care teams

• Work across units including ambulatory care, nursing home, and the Emergency Department as scheduled

• Uphold VA patient safety standards and the standards of The Joint Commission and the American Nurses Association

REQUIREMENTS

• Active, unrestricted LPN license issued by any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia (New York license strongly preferred)

• Graduate of a state-approved school of practical or vocational nursing

• Current CPR/BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (required — other issuers not accepted)

• English language proficiency — spoken, reading, and writing

• Ability to pass a federal background investigation (cost covered; approx. $415)

• Ability to complete VA mandatory online training (TMS) prior to start

• Ability to complete VA credentialing and privileging process (allow 8–10 weeks from hire)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in medical-surgical, psychiatric, long-term care, or geriatric nursing

• Prior VA or federal healthcare experience

• Familiarity with CPRS or similar electronic health record systems

• Active New York State LPN license

ORIENTATION & ONBOARDING

New hires complete a structured orientation: two days of facility nursing orientation (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, weekdays), followed by three weeks of unit-based orientation rotating across shifts to ensure proficiency. You will not be placed independently until orientation is complete.

Long-term contract stability through June 2031

Serve a patient population that values clinical staff

Competitive hourly rate with shift differentials

Federal background check and credentialing costs covered
