Position: Independent Contractor – Core A/B Medication Administration Trainer (LPN)

Schedule: Flexible scheduling based on organizational training needs. At least one (1) training per month is required.
Salary: $35-$50/hour, depending on experience
The Arc of Evansville is seeking a knowledgeable and engaging Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide Indiana-approved Core A and Core B Medication Administration training to DSPs and other staff supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This contractor role is ideal for a nurse who is passionate about education, healthcare compliance, and empowering direct support staff with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely administer medications in community-based settings.
The trainer will be responsible for conducting competency-based medication administration instruction, evaluating staff competency, maintaining required training documentation, and ensuring all instruction aligns with Indiana Bureau of Disabilities Services (BDS) standards and regulations.
Independent Contractor Status:
- The Core A/B Trainer is an independent contractor, not an employee of The Arc of Evansville.
- The contractor is responsible for self-employment taxes, licensure maintenance, continuing education, and any professional liability coverage.
- No benefits such as worker’s compensation, health insurance, paid time off, or retirement plans are provided.
- The contractor maintains flexibility in coordinating training schedules with the Agency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct Indiana-approved Core A and Core B Medication Administration training for DSPs and designated staff.
- Provide instruction on medication administration procedures, medication documentation, infection control, medication error prevention, and participant safety.
- Administer and evaluate written tests, competency validations, and skills demonstrations.
- Maintain accurate training attendance records, competency documentation, and testing materials.
- Provide additional instruction or remediation for staff requiring further support.
- Ensure all training materials and practices comply with Indiana DDRS/BDS requirements and current medication administration standards.
- Participate in required state-approved Train-the-Trainer sessions and maintain eligibility to instruct Core A/B curriculum.
- Communicate professionally with Agency leadership regarding training schedules, compliance concerns, and staff competency outcomes.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain an active Indiana LPN license in good standing.
- Must meet Indiana Bureau of Disabilities Services (BDS) requirements to provide Core A/B Medication Administration training.
- Completion of Indiana-approved Core A/B Train-the-Trainer certification required.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
- Previous staff training or teaching experience preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills required.
- Ability to effectively teach adult learners with varying educational backgrounds and learning styles.
- Basic computer proficiency required, including virtual training platforms and electronic documentation systems.
- Must successfully complete required background screenings in accordance with Agency and state requirements.
